Take Back NYU!

I know I never did return and blog some more after finals, but my absence is justified, I promise. This semester I’m *still* taking six classes, which pretty much translates to a daily schedule full of procrastinating with no time for rest or anything else. But it’s paying off- As of sometime this week, I’m an Anthropology major with a concentration in Linguistics. It makes me feel good, especially since this week has been largely about how legitimizing institutions alternatively fuck you over / make you feel good. I still have to go through this ridiculous process if I want to actually get a major in Linguistics, which I’m still unsure about.

Something else that has also been consuming my life:

I went to mass on Ash Wednesday.

So I know I’ve been away for a long time. I’ve been busy this semester, what with taking six classes and maintaining some sort of presence in campus activism. While I haven’t posted in a long time, I just added two papers I wrote recently to my “academic essays” page. One is a short essay on medieval Islamic concepts of free will and the other is a pretty scathing movie review of The Mission (with Robert DeNiro, directed by the same guy who did The Killing Fields).

I’ll be done with classes and finals in 2 weeks, ojalá. After that, I’ll probably be posting more regularly and, if I manage to scavenge some initiative from the brutal work weeks ahead, I might even make some collages and even a zine. That reminds me, take a look at the Barnard Zine Library blog! If you live in New York City, you should contact them and see if you can get access to it (access to Barnard Library is generally restricted to Barnard, Columbia UTS, JTS, and NYU students, but zine librarians are sneaky people).

I’m finally back in Texas, wandering the streets of Lewisville like I always do. I’ve been doing quite a bit of adventuring this weekend, thanks to an unexpected bout of homelessness, which is always welcome.

I don’t have much time to write a long post, since I’m on my way out to a Radiohead show today, very exciting, very exciting stuff:

New blog, new blog, what will I feed you?

I should probably first explain the name- the phrase comes from the Decemberists‘ song “Sons and Daughters” from The Crane Wife. Like so many Decemberists songs, it does a great job of describing my romantic ideals, in this case, of a dreamy insurrection.
